Nagpur: Historic Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur is all set to host the 69th Dhammachakra Pravartan Day with grand celebrations. Usually, about 5–6 lakh followers of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar visit the site every year. But this time, officials expect the crowd to swell to 8–9 lakh or more.

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Committee has planned a series of events starting from October 2. In preparation, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, NIT, the transport department, health authorities, the electricity board, and the police have joined hands to make arrangements. Schools around Deekshabhoomi have been taken over temporarily to provide food and accommodation for visitors arriving from outside the city.

According to DCP S. Rishikesh Reddy, over 1,200 police personnel will be on duty, supported by two State Reserve Police Force units, 200 traffic staff, and 100 CCTV cameras linked with AI-based surveillance. Security has been divided into four sectors to ensure smooth crowd management.

Devotees have already started arriving, and a record turnout is expected on Vijayadashami day. Considering the possibility of rain, special shelters and other basic facilities have also been arranged.

On October 14, 1956, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar embraced Buddhism at this very place with lakhs of followers by taking the Three Refuges and Five Precepts. Ever since, the day has been marked as a major annual event, drawing huge crowds. This year, officials anticipate an unprecedented gathering to pay tribute to that historic moment.
