Hingoli: Political situation in Maharashtra is once again turning tense. Ahead of the local body elections, many leaders are changing sides. This time, the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has faced a big setback. Dilip Chavan, NCP’s Hingoli district president, has resigned from his post and is expected to join Ajit Pawar’s group soon.

Even after Assembly elections, Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) which includes Sharad Pawar NCP, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, and the Congress is struggling with leaders leaving the alliance. Earlier, leaders from Thackeray faction switched sides, and now Sharad Pawar group is facing the same problem. Chavan’s resignation has weakened the party’s hold in Hingoli, while Ajit Pawar’s group is likely to gain strength in area.

Chavan has handed over his resignation to NCP State President Shashikant Shinde. His decision, taken just before the municipal elections, is being seen as a major blow to the Sharad Pawar camp since he has a strong following in region.

Political experts believe that more leaders may change sides in coming days. With the municipal polls approaching, Maharashtra’s political temperature is likely to rise even higher.
