Mumbai: Maratha reservation issue has taken an important turn. Bombay High Court has thrown out a petition that was against the govt’s order to use Hyderabad Gazette. This decision has given big relief to Maratha community.

Activist Manoj Jarange started a huge protest asking that Marathas should get reservation in OBC category. Lakhs of people joined the protest in Mumbai. Later, the government agreed to some demands and promised time for others. The most important demand was to apply the Hyderabad Gazette, and the government issued an order (GR) for it.

Vineet Dhotre then filed a petition in High Court against this order. The court asked: “How is the petitioner personally affected by this govt decision?”After this, the court said the case was not a public interest matter and dismissed it.

Because of this decision, the govt’s order stays in place. This is seen as a big step for the Maratha community and a success for Jarange Patil’s protest.

Court, however, said petitioners can still file a writ petition later. So, new legal battles may come up. For now, the Maratha community is happy and relieved.
