New Delhi: Indian blind women’s cricket team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. He spoke warmly with all the players. Maharashtra’s Ganga Kadam, the team’s vice-captain, was also there.
After the meeting, Ganga said she was very happy. But she also became emotional while thinking about her late father. She shared that she began playing cricket in school and often played with boys. Later, she studied in a blind school in Solapur and then moved to Mumbai for college.
Ganga said her father passed away recently and would have felt very proud today. “We were poor, but my father always supported me. I know he is watching me from wherever he is,” she said.
Talking about the sport, Ganga said blind cricket needs a lot of hard work, even more than normal cricket. “People should give respect to blind cricket too. We wanted to win so the next generation can benefit,” she added.
Ganga also shared her favourite players. She likes Mumbai’s Jemimah Rodrigues in women’s cricket, and Rohit Sharma in the men’s team. Earlier, MS Dhoni was her favourite. She wanted jersey number 7, but when sthe didn’t get it, she chose number 007 — and later found out it is James Bond’s number.
