India Morning News
New Delhi: Special sky event will happen on Sunday night and early Monday. Moon will look red in colour during a total lunar eclipse. People call it a Blood Moon.
B. R. Guruprasad, head of Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, said a lunar eclipse happens when Earth comes between the Sun and Moon. The Earth’s shadow fully covers the Moon, making it red. This red colour comes because the Earth’s air bends red sunlight onto Moon, while blue light goes away.
Eclipses happen twice every year, but this one is special because Moon will be fully covered and clearly seen if the weather is good. The last total eclipse in India was in 2018. The next one will be on Dec 31, 2028. People in Japan, Europe, and North Pole can also see it.
Scientists say shade of red will change based on dust in air.
In Bengaluru, groups like PACK will hold events to spread facts and stop wrong beliefs about eclipses. People can also watch it from the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium and Visvesvaraya Museum.
Eclipse Timings:
8:58 pm – Eclipse starts (faint shadow)
9:57 pm – Partial eclipse starts
11:00 pm – Moon fully covered
11:00 pm to 12:22 am – Moon looks red
12:23 am – Moon starts coming out
1:26 am – Faint shadow again
2:25 am – Eclipse ends
Look up at sky this Sunday night to see beautiful Blood Moon
