New Delhi: Tamil Nadu govt has changed rules to let women work in more types of jobs that were earlier considered dangerous. Women who want to work night shifts must give written permission.
Government updated Tamil Nadu Factories Rules, 1950. About 20 new jobs, like working with glass, lead, or chemicals, are now open for women. Some very risky jobs, like handling toxic gases, explosives, petroleum, or dyeing, are still not allowed for women.
Earlier, women in Tamil Nadu already worked in risky jobs like fishing and collecting seaweed. Now, they can also work in noisy factories or places with strong vibrations and chemicals. But experts warn this may bring health problems, injuries, or illness from dangerous materials.
