Nagpur: Maharashtra is planning to create new districts and talukas to make administration easier. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said govt has received proposals for about 20 new districts and 81 new talukas. But final decision will be made after the 2026 census.

What Minister Bawankule Said
Bawankule said, “Many proposals have come to create new districts and talukas. But this can only happen after the new census data is available.”
Benefits of New Districts and Talukas:
Government work will be faster and easier.
People will have offices near their homes.
Government schemes and services will reach everyone.
Even people in remote villages will get facilities quickly.
It will help economic and industrial growth.
New Districts and Talukas Are Made:
- 1. Local leaders, village councils, or panchayat committees send proposals.
- 2. The Revenue Department and other departments check the proposals.
- 3. The state cabinet approves the plan.
- 4. An official notification is issued.
Maharashtra has 36 districts in 6 revenue divisions: Konkan, Pune, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Amravati, and Nagpur.
Rural areas: 33 Zilla Parishads, 351 Panchayat Samitis, 27,906 Gram Panchayats.
Urban areas: 28 Municipal Corporations, 219 Municipal Councils, 7 Nagar Panchayats, 7 Cantonment Boards.
The new districts and talukas will bring administration closer to people. Citizens will have to wait until after the 2026 census, but this step will make government work easier and faster.
