As part of the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s 100 days Program and in alignment with the Digital India Mission, the Government of Maharashtra is committed to enhancing e-Citizen services and bringing governance closer to the people.
Maharashtra has been exemplary in paperless e-Governance using digital technologies and applications, like eOffice and the Central Registry Unit (which digitises every correspondence with Mantralaya), Aaple Sarkar and District Good Governance Index (DGGI) etc. Moreover, to ensure smooth administrative operations, eOffice is extensively utilized throughout the State Government, encompassing all levels from clerical staff to Honourable Ministers.
For the past four years, all legislators (MLAs and MLCs), in the Maharashtra Assembly have utilized tablets during sessions, thereby rendering the legislative process entirely paperless.
The e-Cabinet initiative is a continuation of Maharashtra’s legacy as a pioneer in e-Governance, further advancing the State’s commitment to leveraging technology for efficient and transparent governance. The solution will help the Government to prepare and conduct the cabinet meetings, and efficiently accessing necessary references, track action points, and review the implementation of decisions taken. The use of e-Cabinet will also facilitate the inclusion of tabled items brought during the cabinet meeting. In addition to being paperless, the e-Cabinet system eliminates the need for last-minute rush to distribute agendas to cabinet ministers.
With use of e-Cabinet, the agenda and related documents will be securely and easily available to the Hon’ble Ministers with a single click, much like tapping to access items on WhatsApp. To ensure the seamless operation of the e-Cabinet system, the Department of Information Technology (DIT) has assigned engineers to provide essential support to the Hon’ble Ministers.
The iPads provided to the Honourable Ministers will also be used to clear eFiles via eOffice from any location, participate in video conference meetings, access monitoring dashboards, and track essential applications such as CPGRAMS, a 24/7 online platform for citizens to submit complaints, Monitor the ‘RTS Maharashtra’ or ‘Aaple Sarkar’ application, which provides citizens with comprehensive services. As an increasing number of e-governance applications are in transition to mobile apps, iPads will become even more handy for office work.
Maharashtra is set to become the seventh state to implement an e-Cabinet system, following its implementation in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tripura. Additionally, Madhya Pradesh is also preparing to move to e-Cabinet.
