Pune: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has clarified that the state government will not announce a loan waiver at this time. Instead, the immediate focus is on providing financial assistance to farmers who have lost their crops due to heavy rains.
Speaking at a press conference in Pune, Fadnavis said, “Our goal is to directly transfer compensation money to the farmers’ bank accounts. We have not gone back on our promise of loan waiver; it will be implemented at the right time.”
On MLA Bacchu Kadu’s ongoing protest in Nagpur, the Chief Minister emphasized that issues should be resolved through dialogue, not road protests. He mentioned that Kadu was invited to Mumbai for discussions but could not attend. “Some of his demands involve multiple departments and will take time to resolve,” Fadnavis added.
The CM further stated that previous loan waiver schemes mostly benefited banks rather than farmers, and his government aims to ensure genuine relief. He also warned that those attempting to disrupt public order by blocking roads or trains will face strict action.
Reiterating the government’s openness, Fadnavis said, “We believe in dialogue as the best way to address all concerns.”
