Kolhapur: Maharashtra minister Chandrakant Patil has said that district council (Zilla Parishad) elections may be announced soon. Speaking at BJP’s meeting in Kolhapur on Friday, he said local body elections like Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, Zilla Parishad and Municipal Corporations are more important for leaders than Lok Sabha or Assembly polls.

He told party workers that the coming polls should be fought as a joint Mahayuti (BJP-led alliance) fight. “An election is like a fast train. If you miss it, you are left behind. Don’t lose heart politics needs hard work and luck,” Patil said.

He asked BJP members to meet people during the Diwali season and build contacts to improve the party’s position. He also said the final decisions on seat sharing with allies will be taken by senior leaders.

Patil promised that no BJP worker will be treated unfairly. He said the party will cooperate with NCP or Shiv Sena only where it has a strong candidate and will not sacrifice its own workers.

Patil also spoke about the 2019 political changes, saying that different decisions by Uddhav Thackeray might have created another picture in the state. “Whatever happened then was fate,” he added.

He ended by saying he never asked for a ticket for himself and that every worker should keep working for the party regardless of the result.
