Nagpur: Even after Diwali, rain continues to trouble parts of Maharashtra, and weather experts warn that the situation may worsen in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that a new cyclone named ‘Montha’ is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal, bringing more rain and strong winds.

Adding to the concern, another low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea is also influencing the state’s weather, increasing the risk of heavy rainfall in several regions.

The Maharashtra government has placed all emergency response teams on alert and warned fishermen not to venture into the sea. People in coastal areas have been advised to remain cautious as wind speeds may reach 35–55 km/h.

In Mumbai, cloudy skies and light rain are expected for the next two days. On Sunday, Colaba recorded 14 mm of rainfall, while Santacruz received around 6 mm.

Due to the combined effects of these two weather systems, rain is expected to continue till the end of October, especially across Konkan and central Maharashtra. The weather is likely to turn dry again in the first week of November.
