Pune: NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar said on Tuesday that questions about elections should be answered by the Election Commission (ECI), not by BJP leaders.
Pawar explained that when Rahul Gandhi and other opposition MPs talk about problems in voting system, Election Commission keeps quiet, while BJP leaders reply on its behalf. “This creates doubt in people’s minds about the Election Commission, which is not good for democracy,” Pawar said.
Rahul Gandhi had recently claimed that fake changes were made in voter lists in Karnataka and Maharashtra. He called it “vote theft” and accused the Chief Election Commissioner of protecting those responsible.
Election Commission strongly denied this, saying Gandhi’s charges were wrong and that no voter can be added or removed online by the public.
Pawar insisted that to protect trust, the Election Commission itself must respond to such allegations instead of political leaders.
