Mumbai: Heavy rain and floods in Marathwada have disturbed normal life. Many people had to leave their homes. Farms are badly damaged, crops are lost, and animals have died. Till now, 8 people have lost their lives. Rescue teams are still working in many places.
CM Fadnavis will visit Solapur and Latur on Wednesday. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar will visit Solapur, Dharashiv, and Beed. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde will also check the flood situation in Dharashiv. Ministers from each district will also go to see the damage.
Reports say around 23% of farmland in Vidarbha and Marathwada is destroyed. More rain is expected this week. Opposition leaders say farmers need quick help and the government should declare a “wet drought.”
MP Rohit Pawar asked for 50,000 per hectare help for farmers.
MP Supriya Sule said the Shaktipeeth Highway project money should instead be used for farm loan waivers.
After the cabinet meeting, CM Fadnavis said the govt has already approved relief. In the next 8 days, 2,215 crore will be sent directly to farmers’ bank accounts. He also asked all ministers to visit farms and meet farmers.
Many MLAs and MPs have gone to flood-hit areas, met people, and given relief material. Some leaders even helped rescue people trapped in floodwater.
