Imphal: Security forces carried out a planned action in Manipur’s Churachandpur district early today. During operation, four Naxalites were killed in a short but intense gunfight. Action was taken after police received secret information about group’s movement.
As forces reached the area, the Naxalites started firing suddenly. Security team fired back in defense. After some time, four Naxalites were found dead at the spot.
Several weapons and bullets were recovered from them. Officials believe a few others may still be hiding nearby, so the search is being continued.
Area has been placed under tight security. People have been asked to stay away from the encounter site until situation becomes normal.
