New Delhi: South Africa defeated India 2-0 in the Test series, marking a major setback for the Indian team. In the second Test, India were bowled out for 140 while chasing a target of 549, suffering a 408-run loss—their biggest defeat in Test cricket by runs.
This victory also marks South Africa’s first Test series win in India in 25 years. India have now suffered consecutive Test whitewashes at home, raising concerns among fans and analysts.
Following the defeat, head coach Gautam Gambhir faced criticism on social media, with some fans calling for his resignation. Speaking after the match, Gambhir accepted responsibility for the performance. He said, “The whole team is responsible, but you can start with me. The BCCI will decide about my role.”
He also highlighted India’s earlier achievements under his leadership, including a successful England tour and victories in major tournaments such as the Asia Cup and the Champions Trophy.
