India Morning News
Mumbai: Government of India has made it compulsory to link your PAN card with your Aadhaar card. The tax advisory platform TaxBuddy has warned that if you don’t do this by December 31, 2025, your PAN will become inactive from January 1, 2026.
If your PAN is deactivated:
- You can’t file your Income Tax Return (ITR).
- You won’t get your tax refund.
- Your pending ITR will not be processed.
- TDS/TCS details won’t appear in your Form 26AS.
- Higher tax deductions will apply.
- Your salary deposits or SIP auto-payments may fail.
Last Date to Link
Government has already given extra time many times, but now the final deadline is December 31, 2025. There is very little chance of another extension.
Everyone who got a PAN using Aadhaar enrolment ID before October 1, 2024, must link it with Aadhaar before the deadline.
How to Link PAN with Aadhaar
- 1. Visit the official website – www.incometax.gov.in
- 2. Click on “Link Aadhaar” under Quick Links.
- 3. Enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number, and mobile number.
- 4. Verify with OTP.
- 5. If your PAN is already inactive, pay a 1,000 fee first.
- 6. After linking, check the status under “Link Aadhaar Status.”
