New Delhi: Central government on Friday announced a major change in labour rules by putting all four new labour codes into immediate effect. With this, 29 old labour laws have now been scrapped, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the country’s labour system.
Under new rules, minimum wages will be legally guaranteed in every sector, and employers will be required to pay salaries on time. Workers doing overtime will receive double wages, while women will be allowed to work night shifts with equal pay.
These changes are expected to benefit nearly 40 crore workers across India, giving them stronger rights and better social security protection.
