Maharashtra BJP President and Cabinet Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has launched a sharp attack on the Congress over the long-pending caste-based census, accusing the party of misleading people since 1948. Speaking at a public event, Bawankule claimed that leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi never prioritized the people’s demand for caste enumeration.
“Rahul Gandhi kept asking when the caste census will happen. But what did Congress do for 65 years? Why didn’t they conduct it?” Bawankule questioned. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking a bold decision and announced that the caste-based census will be completed by 2027.
Taking a jibe at Rahul Gandhi, Bawankule said, “If Congress truly wants to support the caste census, they should convene a party convention and pass a resolution congratulating Modi for initiating it.”
Bawankule further declared that the BJP would pass a similar resolution in support of PM Modi at over 1,00,186 booths across Maharashtra. Additionally, every village gram sabha in the state would also pass a congratulatory resolution, he said.
Shifting focus to local development, Bawankule praised Praveen Tayade, calling him the “advocate for the issues of the people” in the Achalpur Assembly constituency. He vowed to hold a meeting within 15 days regarding the revival of the shut-down Finlay Mill in Achalpur. “If anyone tries to block Achalpur’s progress now, they’ll face an accident,” he warned.
Bawankule also predicted a surge in women representatives at the gram panchayat level and more than 200 women MPs in the future. Confident about BJP’s future in the region, he said, “When Praveen Tayade files his nomination in the next election, the opposition will be forced to hunt for another constituency.
