May 1, 2025: Maharashtra BJP President and State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has publicly questioned the silence of opposition leaders Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Nana Patole, and Vijay Wadettiwar on the Modi government’s landmark decision to include caste enumeration in the upcoming national census. In a pointed challenge, Bawankule asked whether these leaders, who had vocally demanded a caste-based census, would now show the “courtesy” to congratulate the central government or continue engaging in “petty politics.”In a post on X, Bawankule criticized the opposition for playing “narrow-minded caste-based politics” for their own selfish interests. He stated, “These leaders and their parties have done nothing over the years to bring citizens of various castes into the mainstream of progress and development. Now, when the Modi government has resolved to integrate all communities into the mainstream through this caste census, instead of congratulating the decision, they are busy trying to take credit.

This exposes the opposition’s narrow mindset once again.”Bawankule further emphasized the revolutionary nature of the decision, saying, “The country’s beloved Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji, has taken a transformative step by approving the caste-based census. At the very least, these leaders should show the courtesy to acknowledge and congratulate this move.”The BJP leader’s remarks come after the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the inclusion of caste enumeration in the forthcoming national census on April 30, 2025. The decision has been hailed by BJP leaders as a historic step toward social justice, while opposition leaders have claimed it as a victory for their persistent demands.Bawankule’s post has sparked curiosity about how opposition leaders will respond, with many awaiting their reactions to the challenge. The Maharashtra BJP has also announced plans to hold events across 1 lakh booth units in the state to celebrate Prime Minister Modi’s decision, underscoring its significance for marginalized communities.
