Mumbai: Maharashtra is gearing up for its upcoming local body elections. All major political parties have already started preparing for the polls. In this backdrop, a major development has surfaced, indicating a possible setback for the ruling Mahayuti alliance.
BJP’s Stand in Mahayuti
Both the Mahayuti (BJP-Shiv Sena-Ajit Pawar NCP alliance) and Maha Vikas Aghadi have begun preparing at the grassroots level. However, it’s still unclear whether these elections will be contested jointly or independently.
Maharashtra’s CM Devendra Fadnavis had earlier said
“We will fight local body elections as the Mahayuti. Only at a few places might there be friendly contests, but our first choice is to contest as an alliance.”
Ajit Pawar NCP’s New Signal
Now, senior NCP (Ajit Pawar group) leader Praful Patel has stirred political discussions with his remarks. Speaking about the upcoming elections, he said
Municipal and civic body elections are held at the local level. Many workers aspire to contest these polls. While alliances work in big elections, for smaller local polls it’s better to fight separately, so party workers get a fair chance.”
His statement has triggered speculation that the Ajit Pawar-led NCP might go solo in local body polls with a “one party, one fight” approach.
This has raised excitement and curiosity about how Maharashtra’s local elections will unfold over the next few months.
