Nagpur — The countdown for Maharashtra’s local body elections has officially begun. Voting for municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats will be held on December 2, while the results will be declared on December 3. The voting will take place through EVM machines, and the Code of Conduct has already come into effect across the state from November 4.

Important Election Schedule:

  • Last date for nominations: November 17

  • Scrutiny of papers: November 18

  • Withdrawal deadline: November 21

  • Symbol allotment: November 26

  • Voting: December 2

  • Counting of votes: December 3

According to the State Election Commission, there are over 1.07 crore voters in Maharashtra, including 53 lakh women voters. Around 13,000 EVM machines will be deployed for smooth conduct of the elections.

In a special initiative to boost female voter participation, ‘Pink Booths’ staffed entirely by women officials will be set up across several districts.

More Facilities and Updated Rules:
This time, the spending limit for candidates has been increased to ₹15 lakh for president posts and ₹7 lakh for councillor posts. A mobile app has also been introduced to help voters easily locate their names in the voter list.

Additionally, voters with duplicate names will be required to submit a declaration before voting to prevent double voting and ensure transparency.

The Election Commission has emphasized that all arrangements are in place to ensure free, fair, and inclusive elections across the state.
