Nagpur: Maharashtra government has announced a major policy reform to encourage the use of artificial sand (M-sand) in the construction industry, offering significant relief to builders struggling with sand shortages.

State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that under the new policy, district collectors will now have the authority to grant permissions for setting up up to 100 M-sand units directly. Previously, collectors could approve only 50 such units.

This decision aims to reduce dependence on natural sand, ensure environmental protection, and promote sustainable construction practices across the state.

To maintain strict compliance, the government has clarified that if any M-sand unit violates operational rules, its license will be suspended, and in case of repeated violations, it will be permanently canceled.

Officials believe this move will speed up construction projects, address sand scarcity, and support eco-friendly building materials for Maharashtra’s growing infrastructure needs.
