Nagpur – Maharashtra’s Winter Assembly Session will officially begin on 8 December in Nagpur, as announced by the Governor. However, the government has not yet clarified how long the session will continue.
With the session approaching, Nagpur is once again set to become the centre of major political activity. The opposition is preparing to strongly raise issues such as local body elections, extensive crop and property damage from heavy rains, and the need for relief measures for affected citizens. These matters are likely to trigger intense debates during the session.
Before the Assembly meets, polling for municipal councils and nagar panchayats will be held on 2 December, with counting on 3 December. Soon after, dates for Zilla Parishad and municipal corporation elections are also expected to be announced. Earlier, there was speculation that the Winter Session might be postponed due to the election schedule, but the Governor’s notification has ended all uncertainty.
Preparations in Nagpur are already underway. A temporary Secretariat will begin functioning next week, and ministers’ residences and offices are being shifted to the city. Hotels, guest houses, and government quarters are being readied to accommodate the heavy movement of officials and legislators.
Nagpur Police have planned tight security arrangements. Additional personnel will be deployed around Vidhan Bhavan, important government buildings, major roads, and busy junctions. There are also discussions about increasing flight and train services during the session to manage the expected rush.
In the coming days, Nagpur will once again witness the familiar buzz of political meetings, delegations, and administrative activity as the Winter Session draws near.
