Mumbai:  Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has given a warning to comedian Kapil Sharma after “Bombay” was used in his Netflix show. MNS leader Ameya Khopkar shared a video clip from the show on social media. He said that even though the city’s name was officially changed to Mumbai almost 30 years ago, many people still call it Bombay.

Video was from an episode with Shilpa Shetty, Shamita Shetty, Huma Qureshi, and Saqib Saleem. In it, Huma Qureshi used the word “Bombay” while talking about her brother.

Khopkar reminded that name Mumbai was made official in 1995 by the Maharashtra govt and in 1996 by the Central govt. He said Bollywood stars, TV anchors, and even politicians continue to say Bombay, which is wrong. He added that MNS is giving a “request and warning” to always use the name Mumbai.

MNS has often raised such issues in past. The party strongly pushes for the Marathi language and culture. Just last month, MNS workers hit a man who refused to speak Marathi. In Nashik, another man was attacked after a quarrel when MNS workers told him to learn Marathi. In Pune, former MNS corporator Kishore Shinde even argued with the municipal commissioner, saying he must speak Marathi instead of Hindi.
