New Delhi: The Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, is hosting a crucial brainstorming session today, June 30, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. This meeting, aimed at strengthening the cooperative sector, will see participation from Cooperation Ministers of all states and Union Territories, along with Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and Secretaries of Cooperation Departments.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ (Prosperity through Cooperation), the meeting seeks to develop a coordinated strategy to advance the cooperative movement across India.
Key Discussion Points:
Review of Cooperative Initiatives:
Comprehensive assessment of the Ministry’s schemes, progress evaluation, and exchange of best practices and experiences from states.
New Cooperative Institutions:
Establishment of 2 lakh new multi-purpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy, and fishery cooperatives in rural areas.
– Food Security & Farmer Empowerment: Deliberations on the ‘World’s Largest Food Storage Scheme’ and support prices for pulse and maize farmers under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
– National Cooperative Bodies:
Review of state participation in the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL), National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL), and Bharat Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL).
– *White Revolution 2.0:* Promoting circular economy and sustainability in the dairy sector.
Digital Transformation:
Computerization of PACS and Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) offices, alongside leveraging the National Cooperative Database for policy formulation.
– Human Resource Development:
Establishment of Tribhuvan Cooperative University and focus on training and capacity building.
Strengthening Cooperative Banks:
Addressing issues related to cooperative banks, operationalizing shared service units for State Cooperative Banks (StCBs) and District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs), and establishing an umbrella organization for Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs).
Cooperation through Cooperation & International Year of Cooperatives 2025:
The meeting will also evaluate progress under the ‘Sahkar se Sahkar’ campaign and discuss state participation in the International Year of Cooperatives 2025. This conclave is poised to unlock new opportunities in the cooperative sector, bolstering both rural and urban economies.
