Mumbai: Nine-day festival of Navratri starts today, Sept 22, and will end on Oct 2 (Dussehra). On the first day, devotees worship Maa Shailputri, daughter of Himalayas.
Who is Maa Shailputri?
Maa Shailputri is the first form of Goddess Durga. She rides a bull, carries a trident, and holds a lotus. She is known as the goddess of nature, peace, and strength. Worshipping her brings prosperity and spiritual growth.
Puja Time (Ghatasthapana)
- According to Drik Panchang, the best time to do Kalash Sthapana is:
- Morning Muhurat: 6:11 AM to 7:52 AM
- Abhijit Muhurat: 11:51 AM to 12:39 PM
Colour of the Day
The colour for Day 1 is white, which stands for purity and calmness.
Puja Vidhi (Rituals)
- Start Navratri with Kalash Sthapana.
- Fill a pot with water, rice, coin, and betel nut. Decorate it with mango leaves and coconut.
- Sow nine types of grains (navadhanya) in soil.
- Light a diya for all nine days.
- Offer flowers, fruits, sweets, and ghee bhog to Maa Shailputri.
