Fifth day of Shardiya Navratri is dedicated to Maa Skandamata, the fifth form of Goddess Durga. She is called Skandamata because she is the mother of Lord Skanda or Kartikeya. Devotees believe that worshipping her brings happiness, success, health and divine knowledge.
Maa Skandamata rides a lion and has four arms. In her lap sits the child form of Lord Kartikeya. One hand blesses devotees, while two hands hold lotuses. Her colour is bright white and she sits on a lotus, so she is also known as Padmasana Devi.
Importance of Day 5
According to holy texts, praying to Maa Skandamata on this day calms the mind and removes worldly worries. Devotees move towards peace, positivity and spiritual growth.
Colour of the Day: Green
Green is colour for Day 5 of Navratri. It stands for nature, new beginnings, growth and peace. Wearing green on this day is said to bring calmness and good vibes.
