Mumbai: Today is the seventh day of Navratri 2025, festival that honours the power of Goddess Durga and the victory of good over evil. Devotees across India pray, fast and perform rituals to seek blessings, peace and strength.

On Day 7, people worship Maa Kalaratri, the seventh form of Goddess Durga. She is known as a fierce but protective goddess who removes fear and negative energy. Maa Kalaratri is shown with dark skin, loose hair and four hands – two holding a sword and an iron hook, and two showing fearlessness and blessing. She rides a donkey, which stands for humility and service.

According to stories, Maa Kalaratri killed demon Raktabeej, who created new demons from every drop of his blood. She drank his blood to stop him from returning, saving the world from destruction. This legend shows the end of bad habits and negative thoughts.

Praying to Maa Kalaratri is believed to:

Remove fear and protect from evil forces

Give courage to face problems

Help in spiritual growth and awakening

Reduce the bad effects of planet Shani (Saturn)

Every day of Navratri has a special colour. Orange is the colour for Day 7. It stands for energy, warmth and positivity. Devotees wear orange clothes while praying to Maa Kalaratri to bring good luck, enthusiasm and happiness.
