Mumbai: Maharashtra govt has started a new E-Bike Taxi service from today. The aim is to give people cheap, fast, and eco-friendly travel. Rules and guidelines have been announced for this service.
How much is the fare?
For the first 1.5 km, the fare is ₹15.
After that, every extra km will cost ₹10.27.
Short trips will be very affordable.
Rules for bike taxi companies
Each company must have at least 50 electric bikes.
Drivers must be 20–50 years old.
Drivers need a driving license and police check.
All e-bikes must have GPS and an emergency contact button.
The words “Bike Taxi” must be written on the bike.
Bikes can run only with a transport permit.
Benefits for passengers
Less traffic – bikes move fast even on small roads.
Quick rides – book easily through an app.
Eco-friendly – electric bikes reduce pollution.
Cheaper than auto or taxi.
Safe – verified drivers, GPS, and insurance.
This service will help especially in big cities like Mumbai. But success will depend on safety rules, charging stations, and support from existing taxi and rickshaw drivers.
