In the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian Army’s swift and robust preparedness has reportedly caused panic within Pakistan’s establishment. In an attempt to gain international support, Pakistan reached out to various nations and called for a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on the matter. Furthermore, Pakistan requested the meeting to be held behind closed doors.

However, the UNSC session turned into a diplomatic setback for Pakistan. Surprisingly, permanent members of the UNSC — the United States, France, Russia, and the United Kingdom — posed tough and uncomfortable questions to Pakistan. Even China, which is often seen as a close ally of Pakistan, refrained from offering it any overt support during the meeting.

Although Pakistan is currently a non-permanent member of the UNSC and thus managed to push for the meeting, it failed to garner the sympathy or support it was hoping for. According to sources, the member states not only condemned the Pahalgam attack strongly but also raised serious concerns over reports that tourists were targeted based on their religion.

Moreover, some countries questioned Pakistan over its missile tests and repeated nuclear threats, further isolating it diplomatically. In conclusion, rather than achieving any diplomatic gains, Pakistan faced global criticism and embarrassment at the UNSC.
