New Delhi: A powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening has left the nation in shock. The blast took place around 6:52 p.m. near Gate No. 1 of the metro station, killing nine people and injuring 24 others. Delhi Police, NDRF, and forensic teams immediately reached the site and sealed the area. Security has been tightened across the capital.
At the time of the blast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Bhutan on a two-day official visit. Expressing deep grief, Modi said he came to Bhutan with a “heavy heart,” as the entire nation mourned the tragedy.
The Prime Minister said he remained in touch with investigation officials throughout the night and directed them to act swiftly. “Whoever planned this cowardly attack will face the strictest punishment. The truth will come out soon,” he declared. Modi assured that all security and intelligence agencies are working together to trace those behind the blast.
He also extended condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wished for a quick recovery of those injured.
Meanwhile, despite the incident, Modi continued his scheduled Bhutan visit — his fourth so far — aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. However, opposition leaders have criticized the timing, questioning why he chose to continue the visit during such a critical situation in the national capital.
