India Morning News
New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin is visiting India for an important two-day meeting with PM Narendra Modi. His visit comes at a time when the United States, under President Donald Trump, is pressuring India to reduce ties with Russia.
Still, India has made it clear that it will continue its long friendship with Russia.
Why the Visit Matters
India–Russia friendship is very old. Russia has supported India for many decades, from the time of Prime Minister Nehru.
Bollywood also helped build the bond — Raj Kapoor’s movies were hugely popular in Russia.
In recent years, PM Modi and President Putin have tried to strengthen ties further.
What They Will Discuss
Defence: new weapons, upgrades, and joint production in India.
Energy: more oil supply, nuclear projects, and cooperation in new energy areas.
Trade: increasing Indian exports and using payment systems that avoid the US dollar.
Big Message
By welcoming Putin, India is showing the world — especially the US — that it will make its own independent decisions and keep relations with all major countries.
