Yavatmal: In a major political shift, senior Congress leader Praveen Deshmukh has decided to quit the party and join the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. Sources say Deshmukh took this step due to internal disputes within the Congress.
The joining ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 30, at Samata Ground in Yavatmal, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The event, which was postponed three times earlier, is now expected to witness a large gathering of supporters.
NCP leader Vasantrao Ghuikhedkar stated that many people are joining the party because they believe in the ideologies of Shahu, Phule, and Ambedkar, which the NCP stands for.
Alongside Deshmukh, several local Congress leaders from Kalamb, Babhulgaon, Umarkhed, Wani, and Maregaon will also switch sides to join the NCP. The group includes members from market committees, district cooperative banks, and local councils.
This development is being seen as a major setback for the Congress in Yavatmal, while it gives a significant boost to Ajit Pawar’s camp ahead of the upcoming elections.
