Mumbai: Bombay HC has allowed the govt to give Kunbi certificates to Maratha community members, based on the old Hyderabad Gazette. Petitions against this decision were not accepted by the court. This means the process for Marathas to get reservation benefits through Kunbi certificates can now move faster.
Village committees will be formed to check applications.
Members will include local revenue officer, gram panchayat officer, and assistant agriculture officer.
Applicants need to submit proof of land ownership or farming work.
If no land proof is available, applicants can give a sworn statement showing their ancestors lived in the area before Oct 13, 1967.
Applicants can also provide certificates from relatives showing Kunbi caste in the family.
Village committee will check the information and send it to the taluka committee.
Taluka committee will review and recommend approval. The authority will then issue the certificate.
Hyderabad Gazette is an order issued in 1918 by the Hyderabad Nizam government. Back then, Marathas were the majority but had less access to education and jobs. The Nizam government gave them some reserved opportunities in education and government jobs. Today, this Gazette is an important proof for Marathas to get reservation.
