Mumbai, – In a major development for Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect.

The veteran opener and current Indian captain made the announcement through a brief statement, marking the end of an illustrious red-ball career that spanned over a decade. Rohit, known for his elegant stroke play and calm leadership, leaves behind a legacy that has left an indelible mark on the longer format of the game.

Rohit Sharma debuted in Test cricket in November 2013 and went on to represent India in over 50 matches. He scored more than 3,000 runs, including several memorable centuries both at home and overseas. His transformation from a middle-order batsman to a dominant opener changed the dynamics of India’s batting lineup in Test cricket.

Speaking on his decision, Rohit expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, fans, and the BCCI. “It has been an incredible journey wearing the whites for India. Test cricket challenged me, shaped me, and gave me some of the most cherished moments of my career,” he said.

While he steps away from the red-ball game, Rohit Sharma is expected to continue contributing to Indian cricket in other formats.
