AhilyaNagar: SaveLIFE Foundation, in collaboration with Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and Mercedes-Benz India Private Limited (MBIL), conducted a specialized training workshop on Best Practices in Work Zone Safety for engineers and field personnel managing the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg (SMM). Organized under the Zero Fatality Corridor (ZFC) initiative, the workshop aimed to eliminate preventable road crash deaths on the 701-km expressway connecting Nagpur and Mumbai.
The training emphasized both theoretical and practical aspects of safe road worksite management to minimize crash risks in active construction and maintenance zones. Key focus areas included planning and managing work zones, effective use of signages, barriers, and traffic management plans, and safe detour practices. Participants engaged in interactive sessions, hands-on modules on temporary traffic management, and reviewed case studies from Samruddhi Mahamarg, alongside national and international best practices. Engineers received certificates upon completion.
The event was graced by Mr. Atul Bhosale, Executive Engineer, MSRDC, alongside the SaveLIFE Foundation team. The Samruddhi Mahamarg, developed by MSRDC, spans 10 districts, 26 talukas, and 392 villages, reducing travel time between Nagpur and Mumbai from 16 to 8 hours, boosting connectivity and economic growth.
Piyush Tewari, Founder and CEO of SaveLIFE Foundation, stated, “Work zones are high-risk areas where small lapses can lead to serious incidents. By training engineers on evidence-based safety practices, we are advancing our vision of zero fatalities on Indian roads. Our partnership with MSRDC and Mercedes-Benz India underscores a shared commitment to safer highways.”
This initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing safety standards on one of India’s longest expressways.
