Gadchiroli: In a major breakthrough for anti-Maoist operations, security forces captured an alleged Maoist militant who was reportedly planning an ambush in the Bhamragad region of Gadchiroli.

Acting on intelligence alerts, a combined team of local police and CRPF’s 37th Battalion moved into the area on 29 September and detained the suspect. Officials say he had been closely tracking the movement of security personnel in preparation for an attack.

Arrested man has been identified as Sainu alias Sannu Amlu Mattami (38), from Poyarkothi village in Bhamragad tehsil. Investigators believe he has played an active role in several violent incidents, including an exchange of fire in Koparshi–Phulnar forest in August this year. A case connected to that encounter was already on record at Kothi Police Station.

Latest arrest took place under the supervision of senior officers from the state police and CRPF, including Special IG Sandeep Patil, DIG Ankit Goyal, CRPF DIG Ajay Kumar Sharma and Gadchiroli SP Neelotpal.

After the operation, SP Neelotpal reaffirmed that the campaign against Maoist violence would continue “with added intensity” and appealed to those still active in the insurgency to surrender and return to mainstream society.
