Mumbai: NCP president Sharad Pawar has expressed strong displeasure over the increasing use of money in local elections. He said several candidates are attempting to buy votes instead of seeking support based on their performance. Pawar warned that this rising “money race” is harmful for democracy and urged voters to think carefully before choosing their representatives.
He also noted that internal disputes are visible in many areas, with members of the same party shifting to other groups. This, he said, shows a lack of unity within political parties. Pawar added that he trusts voters to deliver a fair outcome in the Panchayat Samiti elections.
Speaking on the government’s recent decision to provide a one-year relaxation in loan recovery from farmers, Pawar said the move offers only temporary relief and cannot be considered a complete solution. He asserted that farmers require direct financial assistance, interest relief, and extended time for loan repayment. Pawar emphasised that the current support is inadequate for farmers who have already suffered significant losses.
