Mumbai: Shiv Sena’s Dussehra rally is always in news, and this year is no different. Even after party split, Uddhav Thackeray’s faction continues to hold a big rally. This year, it is especially important because of the upcoming Mumbai civic elections and the growing closeness with Raj Thackeray.
BJP spokesperson Keshav Upadhye criticized the rally on Twitter, saying it will cost around 63 crore. He questioned why so much money is being spent when the same amount could help farmers in Marathwada or support other public works.
Upadhye said earlier rallies led by Balasaheb Thackeray attracted people naturally, without spending much. “Now, money is being spent on stage decorations, advertisements, transport, and food for attendees. Why not use it for Maharashtra’s development?” he added.
Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena defended rally, saying, “Shiv Sena was founded by Balasaheb Thackeray to serve Maharashtra. Those criticizing were not part of the party then. This rally continues our tradition.”
Raut also hinted that Thackeray brothers may announce a political alliance during the rally, making it a key event to watch this year.
