Solapur: Heavy rain in Solapur district has flooded rivers, lakes, and streams, leaving many villages waterlogged. Thousands of people have been shifted to safer places, and farmers have reported huge crop damage.

Amid this crisis, two farmers from Barshi taluka died by suicide on Sept 24. Families say heavy crop loss and rising debt pushed them into despair.

In Dahitane village, Laxman Kashinath Gawasane (58), who owned only 1.5 acres of dry land, ended his life after nonstop rain destroyed his crops. He was also unwell for some time and had fallen into deep stress.

The second incident took place in Kari village, where Sharad Bhagwat Gambhir (45), who had guava and lemon orchards, killed himself. His entire orchard was damaged in the rain. He had loans of nearly 10 lakh from banks and villagers, which he could not repay after the crop loss.

Police have registered both cases as accidental deaths and are investigating further. The back-to-back suicides have created anger and sadness in the area. Local farmers and social workers have demanded urgent help and financial relief for affected families.
