Choundi: In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court has paved the way for long-overdue local body elections in Maharashtra, ending a three-year wait and igniting celebrations among citizens and political workers. The decision, hailed as a triumph for democracy, was announced during a state cabinet meeting in Choundi, the birthplace of Puneeshlok Ahilyadevi Holkar, adding a touch of pride to the historic moment.
BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule welcomed the ruling, calling it a victory for grassroots workers. “This decision honors the rights of our dedicated workers and strengthens the values of democracy upheld by the Supreme Court. Today, smiles light up the faces of our activists,” he said.
The verdict aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis playing a pivotal role in navigating legal hurdles. Bawankule credited Fadnavis for his relentless consultations with legal experts to clear the path for these elections. “The CM’s efforts have borne fruit, setting the stage for a new era of development in Maharashtra,” he added.
The elections are expected to inject fresh momentum into the state’s progress, with Bawankule emphasizing their significance in realizing a ‘Viksit Maharashtra’.
