With Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated film Thug Life set to release on June 5, 2025, the buzz around the film is steadily growing—both for its star power and its controversies. One of the hot topics sparking debate online is the significant age gap between lead actors Trisha Krishnan and Kamal Haasan, who share a nearly 30-year difference.
At the film’s recent pre-release event in Mumbai, Trisha responded confidently to the criticism surrounding their on-screen pairing. “I think that’s something I knew when they announced the film and I had not even signed it. So that’s when I knew, wow, this is magic,” Trisha said, adding that working with legends like Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam was itself a surreal experience.
She addressed the age-gap criticism head-on, saying she was prepared for backlash but believed that her chemistry with Haasan would translate beautifully on screen.
Apart from the romance, Trisha has also faced flak for her appearance in the song Sugar Daddy, which many netizens criticized for its suggestive title and theme. Some took issue with the fact that this is the first item-style number in a Mani Ratnam film, and questioned whether it was appropriate for an actress in her 40s.
Despite the negativity, anticipation remains high. Thug Life marks the reunion of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan after the cult classic Nayakan, and fans are eager to witness this powerful collaboration once again.
