New Delhi: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is getting ready to make an important change in its exams. Soon, visually impaired candidates will be allowed to use screen reader software while writing the exam. This will help them get the same chance as other students.
UPSC told Supreme Court that it plans to give this facility in all its exams. But before that, commission needs some time to set up the technology, test software, and make sure everything works safely at exam centers. After all these steps, the new system will be started.
This move started after a group called Mission Accessibility filed a case in the Supreme Court through lawyer Sanchita Ain. They said that visually impaired students do not get equal support in UPSC exams.
Judges Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta heard case and asked UPSC to start facility soon. UPSC said it will be ready by next year’s exams.
Court also said that this should not be limited to only a few centers, because that would be unfair to some students.
