A tragic accident occurred on Thursday morning in Tamhini Ghat, Raigad district, when a huge rock rolled down a hill and crashed onto a moving car, killing a woman passenger inside.
The car was passing near Kondithar village when the rock suddenly tumbled from the hillside, striking the vehicle’s sunroof and crashing inside. The rock hit Snehal Gujarathi (43) on the head, leaving her critically injured.
Snehal, who was traveling with her family from Pune to Mangaon, was immediately rushed to a nearby clinic, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Heavy Rain Weakens Hill Slopes
Locals reported that the area had seen continuous rainfall for the past few days, which likely loosened soil and rocks along the slope. This has led to frequent small landslides and rockfalls in recent days.
Police Advisory
Police and rescue teams quickly reached the spot, cleared the debris, and restored traffic movement. Authorities have appealed to motorists to drive carefully through ghat sections, especially during or after heavy rain.
