New Delhi : India will travel to Australia this month to play three ODIs and five T20 matches. Indian selectors have chosen a new captain for the ODI team. Shubman Gill will lead the side. The BCCI made this change thinking ahead to the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will still play in the ODIs but under Gill’s captaincy. Both had earlier stepped away from Test cricket. Gill had already been named India’s Test captain and led the team to a 2-2 draw against England.
After announcement, Shubman Gill said:
It’s a great honour to captain India in one day matches. This team has done very well, and I’m proud to lead them. We want to prepare strongly and win World Cup in South Africa.”Gill’s Leadership Roles
